From: Joachim Benjamins <joachimDESPAM@DESPAMmensys.nl>

Serenity Systems International and Mensys BV are pleased to announce the
immediate availability of eComStation 2.0 RC3, The Warpstock Europe 2007
release.

This release is available to customers with an active Software
Subscriptions Services subcription. It adds a few new features and
contains
a lot of updated drivers and fixes.

More details can be found at http://www.ecomstation.com/subscription/

!!! WHEN TESTING BETA SOFTWARE, ALWAYS BE SURE TO HAVE A TRIED AND TESTED
BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM !!!

** Netware installation from CD1 **

It is now possible to add Netware client support to eComStation, straight
from the installation CD. This is especially important for those
customers
that have a Netware networking environment.

** Preboot harddisk integrity check **

There are several situations which may cause installation problems with
LVM
in the install process. In this release, it is possible to disable the
integrity check at page 2 (miscellaneous) of the eComStation installer
preboot menu.

** Harddisk volume resizing **

This version has a custom DFSee engine that enables reliable RESIZING of
FAT32 and NTFS filesystems to allow shrinking an existing Windows
installation to make room for eComStation on the same system. The DFSee

//
engine included in RC3 is at level 9.02.

The GUI to this tool has been updated and is now using a graphical
interface. To invoke it, please select 'Paritition Resizing Tool' from
the
Installation Volume Manager which can be called during installation
(choose
'New Volume' to start MiniLVM).

** Bootable JFS **

This release of eComStation contains the option to install the operating
system on a JFS volume. The advantage of doing this is that the amount of
diskcache is only limited by system memory (typically 10% of available
memory is assigned) This increased cache size gives a huge gain in
overall
system performance.

** Genmac 2.1 Experimental **

This package provides generic driver support for several network
interface
cards under OS/2 and eComStation. Moreover, Genmac is enabled to support
WPA encryption with the Wireless LAN Monitor 3.x or better.

Genmac and the Wireless LAN monitor will be installed when the
appropriate
hardware is detected by the installer. If it is not detected, you can
manually select the driver in the network installation dialog.

Version 2.1 of GenMac now supports the NETBEUI protocol.

Version 2.1 of GenMac now offers suspend & resume on a limited set of
network adapters (when used in conjunction with ACPI) - this is an
*experimental* feature.

** ACPI 3.04 & APM 1.19 **

Support for ACPI is available in this release. The current version is
3.04. ACPI will be automatically enabled if appropriate hardware is
detected. You can manually enable or disable ACPI support at page 4 (USB
&
ACPI) of the eComStation installer preboot menu.

** multicore CPU support **

This release supports the installation of eComStation on a MultiCore CPU
computer. This includes Intel Core Duo , Core2 Duo and AMD 64 X2. To
enable it, you can do so in the ACPI Wizard that is launched from the Post

//
Installation tasks at the end of the installation. Alternatively you can
start the ACPI Wizard at any time from the install/remove folder in the
Local System folder on the desktop.

** eComStation Virtual File System (Samba client support) **

Samba is a SMB/CIFS protocols file and print sharing server/client set
originally made for UNIX world to cooperate with corresponding Windows
and
OS/2 servers or clients. eComStation has a native implementation of
SMB/CIFS server/client set - IBM LAN Manager and IBM Peer. These products
have not been recently updated and may have some compatibility issues
with
modern Windows SMB/CIFS implementations.

Serenity Systems International has reached an agreement with Blueprint
Software Works for the inclusion of the 'eComStation Virtual File System'
driver which provides support for Samba Client.

You are able to download the script package from the home of "TYPO3

eComStation", http://os4you.org/typo3goesecomstation.html
All you need to
run is a working OAMP or AMP4eCS (OS/2+Apache+MySQL+PHP, WPI available
from

Hint for TYPO3-Beginners
------------------------
Those who want to use that CMS with OS/2 or eComStation the first time
should start with reading our documentation (available in English, Dutch,
French and German) for the TYPO3 version 3.8.x (outdated but still
available) and examin the quickstart-package.

All others will be recommended to use the latest versions ...

Yours sincerly

dispositivo: JFS, NTFS, FAT32, etc.

mandato 'format Y:'; hemos terminado.

    From: Roland Schmalenberg <roland.schmalenbergDESPAM@DESPAMlycosxxl.de
>

Hi folks,
yesterday the TYPO3-team released TYPO3 version 4.1.2 and 4.0.7 with some
bugfixes, improved code quality and debugging mode for user generated SQL
queries. I've got the time to change my script today and have finished
the
tests, so a new version for getting TYPO3 to run on base of OS/2 or
eComStation known as "TYPO3 goes eComStation" is out, too.

What is TYPO3?
--------------
For those people not knowing TYPO3 yet it should be mentioned that TYPO3
is
a free Open Source Web Content Management System, released under GPL.
More
informations can be found at http://typo3.com/ or
for developers at
http://typo3.org/

Where to get, what to need?
---------------------------
You are able to download the script package from the home of "TYPO3 goes
eComStation", http://os4you.org/typo3goesecomstation.html
All you need to
run is a working OAMP or AMP4eCS (OS/2+Apache+MySQL+PHP, WPI available
from
http://www.amp4ecs.
//
de/ ), my package and time to study

Hint for TYPO3-Beginners
------------------------
Those who want to use that CMS with OS/2 or eComStation the first time
should start with reading our documentation (available in English, Dutch,
French and German) for the TYPO3 version 3.8.x (outdated but still
available) and exam the quickstart-package.

All others will be recommended to use the latest versions ...

Yours sincerly
Roland Schmalenberg
Team TYPO3 goes eComStation (TT3geCS)

TYPO3 4.1.2 Short installation guide for impatient folks Download
GetTYPO3v4forOS2.zip to your OS/2-PC, unpack to any place

Open command line in that new folder, call GetTYPO3v4forOS2.cmd with option
-t4:1

Move resulting folder "dummy-4.1.2" to data folder \htdocs of your apache
server

Create an empty data file ENABLE_INSTALL_TOOL in folder \typo3conf Start
server "Apache" and "MySQL", call localhost/dummy-4.1.2/ in your favorite
browser More within a short time ...

Here is a collection of screenshots from the TYPO3 backend. They will give you
a general idea of the internal modules, capabilities and concepts of the
system. If you would like to see these features in action, please download the package.

Click any of the images to see an enlarged
version in a new window.

The TYPO3 backend

TYPO3 has a backend divided into three main areas: The
modules menu (left), the page tree
(left/middle) and the module workarea (right). In the top
frame, additional options occasionally appear and the bottom frame is used for
user defined shortcuts.

The interface is optimized for 1024x768 but can be
configured in a variety of ways that allows it to work efficiently at smaller
screen resolutions. Furthermore, the interface is constructed to load fast and
work with virtually any graphical browser (Internet Explorer,
Netscape, Opera, Konqueror) on any operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux).

The 'Web > Page' module

The Page Module is where most site editing
of pages and page content is done. Selecting the module will show the
architecture of the website in the Navigation Pane. The architecture is
represented as a tree structure showing the relationship of
pages to each other. The pages visible in the tree are ones that you have
rights to access and edit. This is the module that website editors and
contributers will use most.

The 'Web > View' module

This module shows the page architecture and then a
preview of the selected web page as it will appear in the
Front End. You are also able to edit page content directly on
the previewed page.

The 'Web > List' module

The List module shows all the content
records stored for the page. This is useful for viewing the records
for users, content items, addresses and templates related to a page. Some
extensions like the guestbook extension save records on a particular page or in
a system folder; the List Module is useful for viewing and editing these
records.

The 'Web > Access' module

Access control in TYPO3 is done on multiple levels. Apart
from access defined for modules, tables and tablefields, every page has an
owner, group and settings for each of them.
Page permissions can also be set here by Administrative users.

The 'File > Filelist' module

File management is an integral part of the system. You can
configure TYPO3 to mount any path on the server and then allow
certain backend users/groups to store files in those folders.
Files can be uploaded, renamed, copied, moved, deleted - even edited online!
Selecting an image folder enables a thumbnail view (a smaller
view like those you can see on the left hand side) of the images in a folder.
Other image information such as size, date of upload and file type is shown

The 'New page' wizard

Creating new pages is very easy. As you create pages, TYPO3
will organize them in the hierarchy of the page tree. If you want to change
your site architecture, you can simply move the pages around within the
system.

The 'Page content' elements

Page content types are selected when adding a new content
element. Page content types can be changed at any time from the pull-down
'Type' menu at the top of the content element. The two most commonly used
elements are text and image elements. In one page, you can use multiple content
elements.

The RTE editor

TYPO3 features a Rich Text Editor which allows WYSIWYG
editing of the web pages. This resembles Word or any other word processor so
closely that users will find it extremely intuitive to operate. As an
administrator, you can configure it to display your stylesheet classes and
filter unwanted HTML.

Frontend editing

When backend users are logged in, the web pages may display
small control panels and 'edit icons'. These provide an intuitive,
context-oriented way of editing content on directly on the web pages. If you
need to edit something while browsing the website, simply click the little
pencil icon near the object. It's that easy!

Mailform wizard

With the mailform wizard, you can easily add a web form
with customizable fields such as text fields, radio buttons, selector boxes,
file upload fields, etc.

Backend user administration

Backend users are allowed to log into the TYPO3 backend and
do permitted actions. Each user can also be a member of one or more groups and
each group can include sub-groups. Groups contain the main permission settings
you can set for each user. Many users can be a member of the same group and,
thus, share permissions.

Extension manager

With the extension kickstarter wizard, the framework for
new extensions can be built very easily. A basic frontend output can be
created, but further coding is necessary.

Third party products

Third party products can be integrated seamlessly into
TYPO3. For example, the popular GPL-application, phpMyAdmin,
is available by default for admin users. It is preconfigured with the current
database of TYPO3 and access is managed automatically by TYPO3. phpMyAdmin
allows administrators to do really low level operation of the database.

Install Tool

The Install Tool ensures that the installation and upgrade
process of TYPO3 is easy. Each time TYPO3 releases a new version or preview,
the main database structure may be altered. The Install Tool will automatically
identify which changes are needed in order to upgrade the database and with a
single click, those changes are performed. TYPO3 is a very comprehensive system
which currently runs on nearly any PHP-enabled server. However, the more exotic
features, like the powerful image generation engine requires special software.
The Install Tool provides tools for analysis and bug-tracking of the
installation.

From: Paul smedley <paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info>

Hi All,

I've updated the OS/2 & eComStation build of Gnash at my website at
http://os2ports.smedley.info
to reflect the latest cvs code as at 2007-07-13.

For those that don't know what Gnash is, from http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash

Gnash is a GNU Flash movie player. Previously, it was only possible to play
flash movies with proprietary software. While there are some other free flash
players, none support anything beyond SWF v4. Gnash is based on GameSWF, and
supports many SWF v7 features.

A plugin for Firefox is also planned when time permits.

The OS/2 port of Gnash is the subject of an OS/2 World Bounty - see
http://www.os2world.com/content/view/14712/1/
for more details.

Enjoy!

Paul.

Runs standalone

Gnash can run standalone to play flash movies.

Browser plugin

Gnash can also run as a plugin from within most Mozilla derived browsers,
such as Firefox. Gnash also has support for Konqueror.

SWF v7+ compliant

Gnash can play many current flash movies.

Streaming Video

Gnash supports the viewing of streaming video from popular video sharing
sites like Lulu.tv or YouTube.com.

XML Message server

Gnash also supports an XML based message system as documented in the Flash
Format specification.

High Quality Output

Gnash uses OpenGL for rendering the graphics on the desktop, and AntiGrain
(AGG) for embedded framebuffer only devices.

Free Software

Gnash is 100% free software. For more information on the GPL, go to the
Free Software Foundation web site.

Better Security

Gnash pays extra attention to all network connections, and allows the user
to control access.

Extensable

Gnash supports extending ActionScript by creating your own. You can write
wrappers for any development library, and import them into the player.

From: Dale Erwin <daleDESPAM@DESPAMcasaerwin.org>

Not too many people these days are very keen on Assembly Language as a
viable development tool. When I was a mainframe programmer, specializing
in 370 Assembler, I heard all the same arguments against it about how
much
more productive one could be in a high level language, but I never agreed
with them.

Don't you think anyone who could deliver a product that occupies 60MB as
compared to an equivalent product developed in a high level language that
occupies 600 MB, and in addition executed everything much faster that the
bloated app, could be competitive? How many times have I heard people
complain about how slow OOo and Mozilla apps are?

I have created a new yahoo group for anyone who wants to collaborate on
the
problems of programming in Assembly Language under eCS and OS/2. I hope
that anyone interested in learning to program in Assembly Language will
join me in this group. It would also be greatly appreciated if anyone who
has any experience in it would also join us to give us some insight. It's
open to anyone who wants to join:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/eCS_asm/

(www.cups.org) + ESP
Ghostscript 8.15.4 (http://www.cups.org/espgs/)
+ Gutenprint 5.1.2 (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/)

(ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/ecups)

Se agradece toda clase de comentarios a
