Mozilla's Firefox 3.0b2 (Official) for OS/2 has been released. This is a
BETA release of Firefox 3, the next generation browser based on Mozilla's
Gecko 1.9 platform. It should be used for testing and feedback purposes
only. Take a moment to review the information and suggestions in the
README.TXT file included in the archive. Some Extensions (Add-ons) may not
yet be updated to work with Firefox 3. If you are looking to add new
Extensions, you can check the Add-ons site using the link below to see if
they are compatible with version 3.

NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY
other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a
mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second
Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and
use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is
with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To
make life even easier, I HIGHLY recommend that you download & use the
Internet Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which
actually contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with
coordinating your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links,
etc. You can find it here:

Avances en Fotografia/2

En los últimos meses se han producido avances en las posibildades de desarrollar fotografias en eCS-OS/2. Recientmente se publicó en este blog un método general para leer fotos directamente de la cámara a eCS aprovechando los avances en FAT32.

DCRaw/2 ha sido actualizado a la última versión

En los últimos días se han publicado paquetes importantes, ahora en hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming

gracias a la aportación de Oliver Cremer:

exiftool.wpi como paquete complementario al Perl.wpi de Paul Smedley.

panotools/2 complilado para eCSpor Evgeny Brednya

Parece que la cosa se mueve.

Azureus4eCS (eComStation y OS/2)

Please note: Azureus4eCS is currently only an experimental test version!

Gracias al paquete Azureus4eCS usando SWTSwing, es posible usar Azureus v2.5.0.4 en eComStation (eCS) y OS/2.
Azureus es un cliente P2P conocido y de amplia difusión para descargar ficheros usando el protocolo Bittorrent (*.torrent).

El paquete Azureus4ECS incluye un script de instalación para crear iconso en el escritorio, scripts de inicio para un uso más sencillo y un script de instalación detallado. También hay algunas clases Java adicionales para mejorar el aspecto .

Requisitos

eComStation (eCS) o OS/2
Golden Code Java 1.4.1 o Innotek Java 1.4.2 Runtime (JRE; normally shipped with eCS)
Download Innotek Java 1.4.2_09 JRE here!

Installation instruction

Download and install Java 1.4.x or newer if you don't have it installed already.
Download Azureus4eCS, create a target directory for Azureus4eCS and extract the ZIP file into the just created directory.
Go to the Azureus4eCS directory call "instos2" and follow the instructions to create the Desktop icons.
Finally call the Installation instruction "Azureus4eCS Setup Guide" (index.html in the Azureus4eCS subdirectory) and follow the instructions carefully!

** Netware installation from CD1 **

It is now possible to add Netware client support to eComStation, straight
from the installation CD. This is especially important for those customers
that have a Netware networking environment.

** Preboot harddisk integrity check **

There are several situations which may cause installation problems with LVM
in the install process. In this release, it is possible to disable the
integrity check at page 2 (miscellaneous) of the eComStation installer
preboot menu.

** Harddisk volume resizing **

This version has a custom DFSee engine that enables reliable RESIZING of
FAT32 and NTFS filesystems to allow shrinking an existing Windows
installation to make room for eComStation on the same system. The DFSee //
engine included in RC3 is at level 9.02.

The GUI to this tool has been updated and is now using a graphical
interface. To invoke it, please select 'Paritition Resizing Tool' from the
Installation Volume Manager which can be called during installation (choose
'New Volume' to start MiniLVM).

** Bootable JFS **

This release of eComStation contains the option to install the operating
system on a JFS volume. The advantage of doing this is that the amount of
diskcache is only limited by system memory (typically 10% of available
memory is assigned) This increased cache size gives a huge gain in overall
system performance.

** Genmac 2.1 Experimental **

This package provides generic driver support for several network interface
cards under OS/2 and eComStation. Moreover, Genmac is enabled to support
WPA encryption with the Wireless LAN Monitor 3.x or better.

Genmac and the Wireless LAN monitor will be installed when the appropriate
hardware is detected by the installer. If it is not detected, you can
manually select the driver in the network installation dialog.

Version 2.1 of GenMac now supports the NETBEUI protocol.

Version 2.1 of GenMac now offers suspend & resume on a limited set of
network adapters (when used in conjunction with ACPI) - this is an
*experimental* feature.

** ACPI 3.04 & APM 1.19 **

Support for ACPI is available in this release. The current version is
3.04. ACPI will be automatically enabled if appropriate hardware is
detected. You can manually enable or disable ACPI support at page 4 (USB &
ACPI) of the eComStation installer preboot menu.

** multicore CPU support **

This release supports the installation of eComStation on a MultiCore CPU
computer. This includes Intel Core Duo , Core2 Duo and AMD 64 X2. To
enable it, you can do so in the ACPI Wizard that is launched from the Post //
Installation tasks at the end of the installation. Alternatively you can
start the ACPI Wizard at any time from the install/remove folder in the
Local System folder on the desktop.

** eComStation Virtual File System (Samba client support) **

Samba is a SMB/CIFS protocols file and print sharing server/client set
originally made for UNIX world to cooperate with corresponding Windows and
OS/2 servers or clients. eComStation has a native implementation of
SMB/CIFS server/client set - IBM LAN Manager and IBM Peer. These products
have not been recently updated and may have some compatibility issues with
modern Windows SMB/CIFS implementations.

Serenity Systems International has reached an agreement with Blueprint
Software Works for the inclusion of the 'eComStation Virtual File System'
driver which provides support for Samba Client.
