- falta de tiempo para traducir correctamente todo y embellecerlo más allá de la simple noticia.

Me encanta ver que OS/2 sigue vivo, que siguen haciéndose cosas para él. Yo he estado desconectado durante mucho tiempo, y aún estaré desconectado durante un mes más como mínimo, pero tengo un par de proyectos que me encantaría portar a OS/2. Sería genial conseguirlo y que aparezca en esta página.

Ánimo y gracias por mantenernos informados.

Me parece positivo que hayan decidido tomar medidas. Aun así, veo un problema importante y es el núcleo. Lo dicen ellos mismos:

El problema principal es que parte del núcleo, así como del entorno gráfico (¿Sigue llamándose Presentation Manager?) son propiedad de Microsoft, no de IBM. A MS no le interesa en absoluto que OS/2 evolucione, ya que podría hacerle sombra a su "flamante" Windows, así que pondrá todas las trabas posibles para que suceda.

Ya se sugirió reimplementar el núcleo, y sería buena solución teniendo en cuenta los éxitos de Wine, ReactOS, DOSBox y FreeDOS (me refiero, sobre todo, al éxito judicial, ya que los infructuosos intentos de MS por criminalizarlos no ha conseguido detener su desarrollo). También podría aprobecharse el trabajo realizado en aquellos cuatro sistemas.

Por desgracia mi experiencia en el desarrollo de sistemas operativos es exclusivamente teórica, porque más de una vez me he planteado la posibilidad de empezar el proyecto de un núcleo compatible con el de OS/2...

En fin, espero que se logre revitalizar este estupendo sistema, ya que es, en mi opinión, el mejor sistema operativo de escritorio que se ha desarrollado hasta la fecha.

A few days ago we sent out a request to gather money for a new webserver at netlabs.org. The goal was to reach 2000 Euro as soon as possible to make sure we can start to do the migration of the CMS the next weeks.

We couldn't believe it ourself but we had the 2000 Euro in less than 24 hours! This is for sure a great motivation for all of us, thanks a lot to every single one who contributed!
We will most probably order the hardware next week and start the migration shortly afterwards. We will keep you informed about the next steps!

In case you did want to contribute but you didn't had the chance now, don't worry. Hi All,

Just wanted to let people know that there is a new home for the OS/2 port
of CUPS (Common Unix Printing System). This is http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups

The site contains details on where we are headed with improving the
printing support in eComStation. To see what printers are potentially
supported, go to http://www.linuxprinting.org - printers mentioned as
working with CUPS or Gutenprint should be supported.

To support the project, it is really important to test out my cups build
that was announced earlier this week. The readme contains step by step
instructions on how to add a printer. Whilst this process is currently a
little cumbersome, this will be improved - what we need to do is to confirm
the basics are working and iron out any problems before building the
relevant frontends to beautify things.
