WPS-Wizard version 0.5.3 beta 1 has been released (9/2/2007); the latest version can be found on NetLabs. This is a WPS addon which gives you freely configurable context menus for all filesystem objects. You may have different extended menus for different classes. Also available is a PNG icon addon, which has been updated (9/2/2007) to version 1.1 RC3. This adds theming classes to the WPS so PNG image files may be used as icons. Cairo is used for rendering, so alpha-blending can be used.


MultiZilla 1.8.3.3e has been released (9/1/2007). This is an extension that adds more features to the tabbed interface in Seamonkey.


FM/2 version 3.7.0 has been released (8/31/2007). This is an open source GUI file manager program, with lots of extra helper utilities. The source code is available from NetLabs. Thanks to David Graser for the info.


Caravan has been updated (8/31/2007) to version 3.59. This is an application server which has built-in http, smtp, ftp and database engines. It also provides a scripting language, a dynamic compiler and basic features needed to develop, test and run applications.


There is a collection of Samba utilities available: Samba server status monitor, Samba widget for xCenter, smb_init, initgroups, findsmb, sharescripts, and useradd scripts, and smbprint, which allows Samba to act as a print server. From VOICE News.


eThemes version 1.2.5b has been released (8/30/2007). This is an eCS theme installer, which comes packaged with 135 window themes. From OS2World.


MagicDraw UML 14.0 EAP beta 2 has been released (8/30/2007). This is a Java based UML modelling tool.


eSchemes version 1.39 has been released on the eComstation BetaZone (for Software Subscription customers only). This replaces the original eComStation Scheme editor and gathers the functionality of Window Themes, eStylerLite, Icon Themes, Sound Schemes, Pointer schemes, and other look & feel settings into one place. Paul Smedley has released (8/27/2007) a build of CUPS 1.3.0, with ESP Ghostscript 8.15.4 and Gutenprint 5.1.3. You can print using the command line tools, or try the CUPS port driver. CUPS is the Common Unix Printing System; the goal is to improve the printing support in eComStation. You can see what printers are potentially supported; those mentioned as working with CUPS or Gutenprint should work. There is a newsgroup dedicated to discussion and feedback.


Juergen Ulbts has released (8/26/2007) Eclipse Enabler version 1.0.0. This package makes it possible to use Eclipse 3.2.2 on OS/2, by using SWTSwing, a Swing implementation of SWT. SWTSwing is also an open bounty at OS2World.com.


cddvdrtools version 1.9 has been released (8/24/2007). This is is a set of command line programs that allows to record CD/DVD/BluRay media, based on cdrecord 2.01.01a34. From OS2.org.


UniClip version 0.3.0 has been released (8/23/2007). This is designed to allow OS/2 programs to exchange Unicode text using the clipboard with other native programs, or with Odinized programs. It is compiled using Odin source code, so it shares the same clipboard formats recognized in Win32 native programs. Note that it only works for programs specifically developed for it, such as Lucide and OpenOffice 2.0.x.


ClamAV version 0.91.2 has been ported (8/23/2007) to OS/2. This is a GPL anti-virus toolkit, which features a command line scanner, a tool for automatic updating via the Internet, and integration with mail servers (attachment scanning).


BogoFilter version 1.1.5 has been ported (8/23/2007) to OS/2. PMMBogoFilter version 0.6.1 is also available (4/9/2006). This is a set of REXX scripts to allow PMMail to use BogoFilter, a Bayesian SPAM filter program.


jRisk version 1.0.9.2 has been released (8/23/2007). This is a Java version of the game Risk.


Paul Smedley has released (8/22/2007) an OS/2 build of Samba version 3.0.25c. Provided are both the Samba server, and a client plugin for the NetDrive Filesystem, which supports 64-bit file I/O with NDFS 3.0 or higher. It allows you to mount SMB or CIFS shares on OS/2 without the need of NetBIOS (IBM LAN Manager or IBM Peer).


VOICE purchased the rights and source code for the popular email client, PMMail/2; version 3.0 beta 2 has been released for VOICE members. VOICE membership will be required as part of the registration.


PHPMyAdmin version 2.11.0 has been released (8/22/2007). This is a set of PHP scripts to administer MySQL over the web.


TrafficVisor III has been updated (8/22/2007). This is a program to collect and analyze TCP/IP traffic. From OS2.org.


Walter Meinl has released Enigmail version 0.95.3 for OS/2; this allows you to use GnuPG with your email in Thunderbird and/or Seamonkey.


An OS/2 port of dvddao version 2.0.1 has been released (8/20/2007). This is a tool for writing DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM discs.


Plextor control tool version 0.0.2 has been released (8/20/2007). This is a tool for updating Plextor firmware and configuring some settings on Plextor CD and DVD drives.


Lotus has released (8/13/2007) SmartSuite 1.7 Fixpack 3 Patch Release #3 (OS207IN3) that fixes some Approach issues. Some earlier patches can also be found there. From VOICE News.


z! has been updated (8/8/2007). This is a textmode MP3 player, that can also handle ogg, streaming audio (Shoutcast), and has normalize support. From OS2.org.


nveth version 0.0.3 has been released (8/18/2007). This is a NDIS driver for NVIDIA chipset network adapters.


Art of Illusion version 2.5 has been released (8/18/2007). This is a full featured 3D modelling, rendering, and animation studio, written entirely in Java.


DFSee has been updated (8/17/2007) to version 9.0. DFSee is an FDISK, display, analysis and recovery tool for disks and filesystems. It includes the ability to resize FAT and FAT32 partitions, has some JFS and LVM support, and is now shareware. There is also a support forum available. From VOICE News.


ACPI driver version 3.01 was released (8/17/2007) on the eComStation Betazone (for Software Subscription customers only). Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is a replacement for APM, PnP, and related hardware features. It features support for multiprocessor systems (SMP, Dual Core, and HyperThreading), and there is an APM driver available (poweroff works, but suspend causes traps if you have an Intel NIC!). There is an ACPI Tools web page as well, which includes a battery monitoring widget for XCenter. Thanks to Eugene Gorbunoff for the info.


PhotoRec version 6.8 has been ported (8/15/2007) to OS/2. This is a file data recovery software designed to recover lost pictures and other data files from digital camera memory or hard disks. Also available is TestDisk, a tool for partition analysis and recovery. Both of these utilities currently only work with image files under OS/2. Thanks to Franz Bakan for the info.


OS2MT has been updated (8/15/2007) to version 0.71 beta. This is a maintenance tool that enables you to download and install various applications with a couple clicks of the mouse. There is also a mailing list for it on Yahoo Groups.


FlashBlock version 1.5.4.1 (for Firefox 1.5.x and later) and version 1.3.7.1 (for other Mozilla browsers) have been released (8/14/2007). This is a Mozilla / Firefox extension that replaces Flash animations with a "click to play" placeholder.


dcraw version 8.77 has been ported (8/14/2007) to OS/2. This is a digital camera RAW file conversion utility. Thanks to Gary Wong for the info.


The Java Image Browser Sorter version 1.8.5 has been released (7/31/2007). This program requires Java 1.4.


Mr. Message has been updated (8/11/2007). This is an instant messenger client which is capable of communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR protocol.


Splint version 3.1.2 has been ported (8/11/2007) to OS/2. Splint (formerly lclint) is a tool for statically checking C programs for security vulnerabilities and coding mistakes.


Smart Cache Loader version 0.31 has been released (8/10/2007). This is a very configurable web grabber with special Smart Cache support.


DaniS506 version 1.8.1 has been released (8/9/2007). DaniS506 is a replacement for IBM's EIDE driver (IBM1S506), which features: support for Intel, VIA, Ali, SiS, CMD, Promise, Cyrix, HPT, AMD, Artop, SMSC, ServerWorks, Opti, Nvidia, NatSemi, SiliconImage, ITE, ATI, and NetCell chipsets, SerialATA, PCCard controllers, busmastering, Ultra33-DMA, Ultra ATA-66, Ultra ATA-100, faster PIO due to 32-bit I/O, and much more.


Paul Smedley has updated (8/9/2007) his OS/2 build of Gnash, an open source Flash movie player. It supports many, but not all, Flash version 7 features. Note that there is not a browser plugin yet. There is an OS2World bounty for this project, if you wish to contribute. From OS2.org.


SmartSVN version 3.0.2 has been released (8/9/2007). This is a Java Subversion GUI client, with features like built-in File Compare/Merge, Change Report or Tag and Branch handling, and more. It requires Java 1.4.1 or higher.


Moneydance 2007r2 build 579 has been released (8/9/2007). It is a personal finance manager written completely in Java. It includes transaction auto-completion, graphing, reporting, a reconciliation tool, running cleared vs uncleared balances, transaction sorting, double-entry, multiple currencies, multiple accounts and much more.


File Commander/2 version 2.30-dev has been updated (8/6/2007). Also available (4/20/2002) is the stable version 2.20. This is a Norton Commander clone for OS/2.


SmartCVS version 6.0.4 has been released (8/5/2007). This is a Java CVS GUI client, with features like built-in File Compare/Merge, Transaction display or List Repository Files, and more. It requires Java 1.4.1 or higher.


Daniela Engert has released (8/2/2007) DaniATAPI version 0.4.0. DaniATAPI is a replacement for IBM's ATAPI drivers (IBMIDECD, IBMATAPI, PCM2ATA.ADD, and OS2PCARD.DMD). It features support for ZIP-250, including full media swapping, and even booting from ZIP. It has faster 32bit PIO when used with danis506, and devices can be used as SCSI, for use with programs like CDRecord. It now requires DaniS506 version 1.8.0 or later. From VOICE News.


SysInfo/2 version 0.8.25, an OS/2 clone of the Symantec SystemInfo tool, has been released (8/2/2007). It shows info about your CPU/FPU, BIOS, HDD, memory use, video and printer subsystems, LAN and Internet connection, OS/2 version, fixpack installed, and so on.


JAlbum version 7.2.1 has been released (8/2/2007). This is a web photo album generator that runs on Java.


SafeFire PPP/Links version 1.3 alpha has been updated (8/2/2007). SafeFire PPP/Links supports PPtP, MSCHAP, ISDN, a traffic shaper, an identd server, remote control, and more.


The Piano Launchpad component of eSchemes Deluxe has been updated to version 1.20 (7/30/2007). The Imagination component has also been updated (8/2/2007). It consists of new WPS classes which simplify browsing of pictures; it offers a preview window and image viewing, with support for many common graphics formats. Piano Launchpad is a replacement for the old IBM Launchpad, with support for large icons. eSchemes will be a component of eComStation 2.0, while eSchemes Deluxe is a standalone product; it can be purchased through Mensys.


PMView, the indispensable graphics viewer, has been updated (8/1/2007) to version 3.51. Version 3.x has several new features, including EXIF support, scripted batch conversions, lossless JPEG rotation, and flyover image info; see the full list of what's new for more info. Registered users can get their updates by following the download instructions received with their original purchase.


Lucide version 1.0.1 has been released (8/1/2007) on the eComstation BetaZone. This is a multi-purpose document viewer, using plugins for different formats. It currently supports PDF, DjVu documents, and JPEG files; additional formats can be added by third party programmers. The UniClip package is now required. Bugs should be reported on NetLabs. Ghostscript version 8.60 has been released (8/1/2007); also available is GSView version 4.8 (2/25/2006). Ghostscript is a freeware postscript interpreter/converter for generating Acrobat (PDF) documents, and GSView is a graphical document viewer that uses Ghostscript as its display engine.


Paul Smedley has ported (7/31/2007) curl version 7.16.4 to OS/2. This is a tool for getting files using URL syntax, with SSL support. From OS2.org.


T&V HappyPlayer version 2.00 beta 11 has been released (7/29/2007). This is a PM application that operates TV cards built on the Brooktree BT848 chip, including some ATI and nVidia cards. From OS2.org.


The powerful CD mastering software, RSJ CD Writer, has been updated (7/27/2007) to version 6.01, which has support for DVD writing, freedb, DAO, IDE drives, creating bootable CDs, and more. Version 6.x adds USB support and a REXX API.


GNU CoreUtils version 6.9 have been ported (7/27/2007) to OS/2. This package is the union of the GNU fileutils, sh-utils, and textutils packages, offering several useful utilities.


Panoply version 2.3 has been released (7/27/2007). This is a Java application which enables the user to plot raster images of geo-gridded data from netCDF datasets. Depending on the data, it can draw global longitude-latitude images or pole-to-pole latitude-vertical images.


General Network Utilities has been updated (7/25/2007). This is a powerful Internet diagnostic tool kit featuring several tools designed to help you quickly identify problems, locate where the problem is, and gather data which can be used to solve the problem either directly or through your Internet Service Provider. Squid version 2.6s14 has been ported (7/24/2007) to OS/2. Squid offers high performance proxy caching for Web clients supporting FTP, Gopher, and HTTP requests. Thanks to Gary Wong for the info.


Gendatam Suite beta 3 version 5 has been released (7/22/2007). This is a Java family history application, providing support for the Gedcom format.


Paul Smedley has built (7/21/2007) an OS/2 version of GNU Tar version 1.18. It works with long filenames, unlike some earlier ports. From OS2.org.


Paul Smedley has released (7/21/2007) an OS/2 build of OpenTTD version 0.5.3 RC2. OpenTTD is an open source clone of the popular DOS game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe" using SDL. Note that the original game data files are currently required. From OS2.org.


Jeti/2 version 0.7.6.1 has been updated (7/21/2007). This is a Java 1.4x client for instant messenger services, including Jabber, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ.


Paul Smedley has updated (7/20/2007) his OS/2 port of Apache version 2.2.4. Also available (8/2/2006) is Apache version 2.0.59, directly from the Apache web site. Apache is the premiere web server of the Internet; newer versions use multi-threading and offer big performance improvements. From OS2.org.


Paul Smedley has updated (7/20/2007) his build of PHP 5.2.3; modules supported include bz2, curl, dbase, gd, exif, filepro, gd, gettext, mbstring, mysql, mysqli, openssl, pdo_mysql, pdo_sqlite, pgsql, and sqlite. He also has a build (3/19/2006) of version 4.4.2. It now includes a module for Apache 2.2, as well as CGI and CLI versions. For more info on PHP, see the PHP web site.


JFtp version 1.50 has been released (7/20/2007). This is a graphical Java network and file transfer client, with features such as recursive directory up/download, browsing FTP servers while transferring files, FTP resuming and queueing, browsing the LAN for SMB shares, and more.


Paul Smedley has ported (7/19/2007) QDVDAuthor to OS/2. This is a GUI frontend for dvdauthor and other related tools. From OS2.org.


coretemp version 0.0.1 has been released (7/19/2007). This is a CPU internal temperature sensor monitor for Intel Core 2 Duo and similar CPUs. Thanks to Gary Wong for the news.


The Panorama VESA video driver was updated (7/16/2007) on the eComStation Betazone (for Software Subscription customers only). This is a generic VESA driver, which supports all VESA 2.0 compatible video adapters. There are also some "widescreen activators" available for Intel and ATI chipsets, which hack the VESA BIOS to support some widescreen modes. Users with SMP systems and/or widescreen panels may find this useful if there isn't an accelerated driver available; there is also an FAQ available. From OS2.org.


ISO9660 Analyzer Tool version 0.1.3 has been ported (7/16/2007) to OS/2. This is a tool for detecting the structure of many types of CD-ROM image file formats, such as BIN, MDF, PDI, CDI, NRG, and B5I, and converting them into ISO-9660.


C.a.R. version 6.4 has been released. This is a Java program that simulates school geometry constructions with a pair of compasses and a straightedge (ruler).


Paul Smedley has released (7/15/2007) an OS/2 port of MySQL 5.0.45. Also available (2/12/2005) is another build of MySQL 4.1.7. The MySQL database server is the world's most widely used open source database. The OS/2 port features named pipes, data replication, >2GB databases, and more. There is a mailing list for discussion.


Weasel version 1.77 has been released (7/15/2007). This is a "lightweight" SMTP/POP server that has multi-domain support. Also available (4/5/2005) is the IMAPD version 0.08 module.


SEEK version 1.0 has been released (7/15/2007). This utility searches for files and directories on your system, and sorts the results. It can also launch apps, search for text strings, find extended attributes, and copy tree data to the clipboard. Thanks to Gary Wong for the info.


PAF for OS/2 version 1.20 has been released. This is an object oriented runtime environment that enhances various OS/2 components. It includes a new PM switch list, IPF extensions enhancing view.exe, extensions for OS/2's Help Manager and a SOM based runtime environment for new WPS applications. Apparently the current direction is to encourage migration to aerolitheOS, an RTOS from the same developers.


Iconomize version 0.81 has been released (7/12/2007). This is an INI maintenance tool that lets you eliminate duplicate icon data in os2.ini. Iconomize was created to demonstrate the features of Remote Workplace Server.


CPMap version 1.1 has been released (7/11/2007). This is a graphical program that can display a complete character map of any OS/2 codepage (including ones that are not normally displayable).


PDFMergeNX version 2.0 test has been released (7/10/2007). This is an application for manipulating PDF and PS files; it provides a graphical interface on top of GhostScript, XPDF, and ePDF.


PrefBar version 3.4.1 has been released (7/10/2007). It allows you to configure several Mozilla settings on the fly, and incorporates the features of UABar.


Guiffy version 8.0 build 226 has been released (7/10/2007). Guiffy is a file compare / merge (diff-like) tool with a GUI implemented in Java.


Remote Workplace Server version 0.80 has been released (7/9/2007). This enables a program to invoke any class or object method or any SOM function in the WPS process without the use of SOM or DSOM. Data that is accessible or meaningful only in the WPS process (e.g. a buffer or object pointer) can be copied or converted to make it available to the calling process. RWS is an open-source project licensed under the generous terms of the Mozilla Public License. It includes server & client dlls, complete source code, extensive documentation, and demo programs.


ImageJ version 1.38 has been released (7/9/2007). ImageJ is a powerful image-editing program relying on Java 1.3 or greater, with numerous plugins.


oo version 1.10 has been released (7/5/2007). This is a WPS commandline tool, that can be used to open, locate, and list WPS objects, assign setup strings, popup their menus, get info, even "drop" files on program objects. From VOICE News.


FPos version 0.80 has been released (7/5/2007). This is an INI maintenance tool that lets you delete unwanted folder position entries. This is a program that demonstrates the features of Remote Workplace Server. From VOICE News.


Gotcha! version 1.77 has been released (7/4/2007). This is a small utility for OS/2 which allows you to easily capture windows, window interiors, parts of the screen or the whole desktop and save them to disk or clipboard as a picture (OS/2 bitmap format).


WPIView version 1.05 has been released (7/4/2007). This is a utility to view, install, and extract WarpIN packages.


eRedMan version 0.9.1 has been released (7/4/2007). This is a pipe redirection utility, like printmon.exe or print2ps.cmd that comes with ePDF. It redirects the contents of pipes to a temporary file and calls the associated program with defined parameters as soon as all the data has been written to the pipe. An example usage for this is to use GhostScript as a printer driver in order to turn your inkjet printer into a PostScript printer.


A test version of MPlayer has been released (7/1/2007), which has support for WarpOverlay. This is a video player that supports many codecs. From VOICE News.


GNU Ocrad version 0.17 has been ported (7/1/2007) to OS/2. This is an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program, that reads a bitmap image in pbm, pgm and ppm formats and produces text in 8-bit or UTF-8 formats. From OS2.org.


eComstation Maintenance Tool version 2.2.0.0 has been released (7/1/2007). This is designed to apply software updates to eComstation.


Peter Weilbacher has released (6/30/2007) an OS/2 build of Sunbird version 0.5, the stand-alone Mozilla calendaring program.


Walter Meinl has released (6/30/2007) an OS/2 build of Lightning version 0.5; this is a Thunderbird extension that provides calendar support.


Personal Cards Manager has been updated (6/30/2007). This enables you to store personal data about your friends, colleagues, and customers in objects on the desktop, offering your contacts in mail and applications. From OS2.org.


The USB-based monitor for APC Back-UPS CS/ES has been updated (6/27/2007) to version 0.05b3. The web site is in Russian, but there is an English readme file. From OS2.org.


Vladest has released (6/25/2007) a "post-NetLabs" build of WarpVision. Some notes about the release: it uses an integrated codec for WMV files instead of using Odin to load a Win32 codec, and the result is not as good as before (no post-processing); prior to WarpVision being a NetLabs project, it violated the GPL, and it is expected that will be true again. Still available (5/23/2006) from NetLabs is WarpVision version 1.0.1. This is a player for DivX-3, DivX-4, DivX-5, XViD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI, and ASF, with mp3/ac3 audio, DVD support, video overlay support, and is skinnable. WarpVision is based on GPL code; at least some of the source for it is in NetLabs CVS. There are also some Windows codecs you can use via Odin. There is also a list of open bugs.


ProNews/2 version 1.59 has been released (6/24/2007). This is a popular newsreader program. All proceeds now go to charity, as the development of this application has been taken over by members of the OS/2 community. The latest version is on Hobbes. From VOICE News.


K Movie Player version 0.3.1 has been released (6/23/2007). This is a movie player based on FFPlay, without SDL dependencies and support for WarpOverlay.


ScummVM version 0.10.0 has been released (6/20/2007). This allows you to run several adventure games, provided you have the data files. Games known to work include Space Quest I & II, King's Quest I-III, Legend of Kyrandia, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system, including Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. There are even free downloads available for a few of the games.


SQLite version 3.4.0 has been ported (6/20/2007) to OS/2. SQLite is an embedded SQL database library.


all2iso version 0.2 has been ported (6/20/2007) to OS/2. This is a collection of tools for converting CD images to ISO format, including BlindWrite, CDRWin, CloneCD, DiscJuggler, Alcohol, Nero, raw, MacOSX, and more.


Paul Smedley has released (6/19/2007) a build of Battle for Wesnoth version 1.2.5. This is an excellent open-source turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme. From OS2.org.


Workplace Sans version 0.4 has been released (6/17/2007). This is a Unicode TrueType outline font that is designed to resemble the OS/2 bitmap font "WarpSans."


InstPDR has been updated (6/16/2007) on the eComStation Betazone. This is a GUI tool for installing new printer drivers, and includes a graphical frontend for importing PPD files. From VOICE News.


Paul Smedley has released (6/15/2007) an OS/2 port of Subversion 1.4.4. Also available (1/9/2007) is another port of version 1.4.2. Subversion is software for version control, intended to replace CVS.


Harbour version 0.99.3 has been released (6/15/2007). This is a free software compiler for the xBase superset language, often referred to as Clipper (as implemented by CA-Clipper).


JamochaMUD version 2.1 has been released (6/13/2007). This is an open-source Java MUCK/MUD client.


kLIBC version 0.6.3 and GCC 3.3.5 CSD3 have been re-released (6/12/2007). GCC is an open source compiler; features of the OS/2 port include fork() support, symlinks, chroot support, and many new functions. The kLIBC runtime is used by many OS/2 ports of Unix applications. Note: the re-release fixes the backward-compatibility bug in the original release that prevented Seamonkey from working.


The bootable JFS drivers have been updated (6/12/2007) on the eComStation Betazone (for Software Subscription customers only). The package includes updates for JFS.IFS and UJFS.DLL. From OS2.org.



MailReader/2 ICE version 3.00 beta 5 has been released to registered users. Larry Tawa now owns the source code; to register you must donate a minimum of USD $35 for a one year subscription to PetSmart Charities online, and forward a copy of the email receipt with the headers intact. The older version 2.67 is also still available (1/24/2005). From VOICE News.


Lux Delux version 5.63 has been released. This is a Java-based game of strategy and domination inspired by the board game Risk.


Paul Smedley has released (6/5/2007) an OS/2 port of LyX version 1.4.4. LyX is an open source WYSIWYM (what you see is what you mean) GUI document processor. Unlike standard word processors, LyX encourages an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents, not their appearance. LyX lets you concentrate on writing, leaving details of visual layout to the software.

'TYPO3 goes eComStation' actualizado

Hi folks,
yesterday the TYPO3-team released TYPO3 version 4.1.2 and 4.0.7 with some
bugfixes, improved code quality and debugging mode for user generated SQL
queries. I've got the time to change my script today and have finished the
tests, so a new version for getting TYPO3 to run on base of OS/2 or
eComStation known as "TYPO3 goes eComStation" is out, too.

What is TYPO3?

For those people not knowing TYPO3 yet it should be mentioned that TYPO3 is
a free Open Source Web Content Management System, released under GPL. More
informations can be found at http://typo3.com/ or for developers at
http://typo3.org/

Where to get, what to need?
---------------------------
You are able to download the script package from the home of "TYPO3 goes
eComStation", http://os4you.org/typo3goesecomstation.html All you need to
run is a working OAMP or AMP4eCS (OS/2+Apache+MySQL+PHP, WPI available from
http://www.amp4ecs. // de/ ), my package and time to study ;-)

Hint for TYPO3-Beginners
------------------------
Those who want to use that CMS with OS/2 or eComStation the first time
should start with reading our documentation (available in English, Dutch,
French and German) for the TYPO3 version 3.8.x (outdated but still
available) and exam the quickstart-package.

All others will be recommended to use the latest versions ...

  • Open command line in that new folder, call GetTYPO3v4forOS2.cmd with option -t4:1

The TYPO3 backend

TYPO3 has a backend divided into three main areas: The modules menu (left), the page tree (left/middle) and the module workarea (right). In the top frame, additional options occasionally appear and the bottom frame is used for user defined shortcuts.

The interface is optimized for 1024x768 but can be configured in a variety of ways that allows it to work efficiently at smaller screen resolutions. Furthermore, the interface is constructed to load fast and work with virtually any graphical browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Konqueror) on any operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux).

The 'Web > Page' module

The Page Module is where most site editing of pages and page content is done. Selecting the module will show the architecture of the website in the Navigation Pane. The architecture is represented as a tree structure showing the relationship of pages to each other. The pages visible in the tree are ones that you have rights to access and edit. This is the module that website editors and contributers will use most.

The 'Web > View' module

This module shows the page architecture and then a preview of the selected web page as it will appear in the Front End. You are also able to edit page content directly on the previewed page.

The 'Web > List' module

The List module shows all the content records stored for the page. This is useful for viewing the records for users, content items, addresses and templates related to a page. Some extensions like the guestbook extension save records on a particular page or in a system folder; the List Module is useful for viewing and editing these records.

The 'Web > Access' module

Access control in TYPO3 is done on multiple levels. Apart from access defined for modules, tables and tablefields, every page has an owner, group and settings for each of them. Page permissions can also be set here by Administrative users.

The 'File > Filelist' module

File management is an integral part of the system. You can configure TYPO3 to mount any path on the server and then allow certain backend users/groups to store files in those folders. Files can be uploaded, renamed, copied, moved, deleted - even edited online! Selecting an image folder enables a thumbnail view (a smaller view like those you can see on the left hand side) of the images in a folder. Other image information such as size, date of upload and file type is shown with the image.

The 'User > Setup' module

Enables editing of Backend (BE) Users' personal setup details. Editable features include name, username, email address, password, BE language (more then 40 langauges are available) and BE layout preferences.

The 'New page' wizard

Creating new pages is very easy. As you create pages, TYPO3 will organize them in the hierarchy of the page tree. If you want to change your site architecture, you can simply move the pages around within the system.

The 'Page content' elements

Page content types are selected when adding a new content element. Page content types can be changed at any time from the pull-down 'Type' menu at the top of the content element. The two most commonly used elements are text and image elements. In one page, you can use multiple content elements.

The RTE editor

TYPO3 features a Rich Text Editor which allows WYSIWYG editing of the web pages. This resembles Word or any other word processor so closely that users will find it extremely intuitive to operate. As an administrator, you can configure it to display your stylesheet classes and filter unwanted HTML.

Frontend editing

When backend users are logged in, the web pages may display small control panels and 'edit icons'. These provide an intuitive, context-oriented way of editing content on directly on the web pages. If you need to edit something while browsing the website, simply click the little pencil icon near the object. It's that easy!

Mailform wizard

With the mailform wizard, you can easily add a web form with customizable fields such as text fields, radio buttons, selector boxes, file upload fields, etc.

 

Backend user administration

Backend users are allowed to log into the TYPO3 backend and do permitted actions. Each user can also be a member of one or more groups and each group can include sub-groups. Groups contain the main permission settings you can set for each user. Many users can be a member of the same group and, thus, share permissions.

Extension manager

With the extension kickstarter wizard, the framework for new extensions can be built very easily. A basic frontend output can be created, but further coding is necessary.

 

Third party products

Third party products can be integrated seamlessly into TYPO3. For example, the popular GPL-application, phpMyAdmin, is available by default for admin users. It is preconfigured with the current database of TYPO3 and access is managed automatically by TYPO3. phpMyAdmin allows administrators to do really low level operation of the database.

Install Tool

The Install Tool ensures that the installation and upgrade process of TYPO3 is easy. Each time TYPO3 releases a new version or preview, the main database structure may be altered. The Install Tool will automatically identify which changes are needed in order to upgrade the database and with a single click, those changes are performed. TYPO3 is a very comprehensive system which currently runs on nearly any PHP-enabled server. However, the more exotic features, like the powerful image generation engine requires special software. The Install Tool provides tools for analysis and bug-tracking of the installation.

Gnash para OS/2 y eComStation: GNU Flash Movie Player

Hi All,

I've updated the OS/2 & eComStation build of Gnash at my website at
http://os2ports.smedley.info to reflect the latest cvs code as at 2007-07-13.

For those that don't know what Gnash is, from http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash

Gnash is a GNU Flash movie player. Previously, it was only possible to play flash movies with proprietary software. While there are some other free flash players, none support anything beyond SWF v4. Gnash is based on GameSWF, and supports many SWF v7 features.

A plugin for Firefox is also planned when time permits.
